Rhetorical Precis

Chapter 3: Rhetorical Précis
In the chapter “Writing Technical Documents” (2012), Mike Markel asserts the writing process when writing an important document. In the chapter he breaks down the writing process in five steps. Those five steps are planning, drafting, revising, editing and proofreading. What makes the process difficult and frustrating is that the five steps are not linear. In this chapter Markel focuses on the techniques and tools that are most useful for technical writers. In doing this process he wants to enable the writer to write effective documents efficiently. In order to write effective documents in this chapter it discusses how to analyze your audience and the purpose of the subject you’re trying to write about.  It gives examples in the chapter on how to brainstorm your writing and how to plan it out effectively and efficiently. After going through all the steps you should have a well prepared document ready to be published.

Markel states in his mission of this chapter that “Every document calls for a unique kind of collaboration”. He wants to imply and challenge people to think creative and how they can work effectively with others and increase the excellent thoughts in their documents they prepare for themselves. Collaborating with other people and collaborative tools can prompt you to consider people around the world who can help you think and write about it forcefully and convincingly.
